How much will our wedding photography cost?

I understand cost is a huge factor for many. All I need is some basic info to give a useful estimate. You can send all that and say hi, here.

I saw you offer a small wedding package, what is that?

Every wedding is different. All of them. But most weddings require similar levels of work, planning, travel, juggling, etc.
However, some of the best weddings are smaller, more intimate affairs, and do not demand quite the same budget.
I try not to set too strict of requirements for this, but some things I look for is that it be within Michigan and preferably with a guest count around 50 or less. If you think you qualify, don’t hesitate to ask!

Have you worked at our venue before? 

A: It is highly likely that I have! In the rare instances where I have not, extensive research is done online, prior to the event, as well as time allotted on the day to walk through and prepare myself. Every venue has its own wonderful and unique characteristics, but the compositional and lighting rules that govern photography are universal!

Do you offer discounts?

A: My work is priced to allow me to offer the best work I can while focusing on weddings full time. That said, I offer a couple of discounts in an effort to support a better world and make accommodations for marginalized folk lacking privileges I have been afforded.
10% LGBTQIAP+ discount for non-cishet couples.
10% for Public School Teachers.
Up to 5% off as a match to a local nonprofit or humane society. Send me a receipt and get that much taken off your final costs. I recommend Forgotten Harvest or Friends of DACC

Do you deliver all of the captured images?

A: I do not! One of the main aspects of preparing and editing your images, after the event, is the removal of missed focus, duplicate shots, lighting tests, and most importantly unflattering expressions. I spend 100s of hours a year on this image culling and use that experience to appropriately remove unnecessary images.

Do you offer destination weddings, and what fees are associated with them?

A: Travel has become an immense passion of mine over the years, health climate permitting. And while I am based in Southeast Michigan (specifically Dearborn Heights), I am proud to have covered events not only across the entire state but the country as well. And in an effort to continue this expansion, this year I am offering destination weddings at a 10% discounted rate plus the cost of travel and reasonable accommodations. I am happy to do the bargain hunting myself or allow you to accrue your miles/awards. For Northern Michigan Events, due to my time growing up and current family living in Traverse City, lower rates may be available for the Northwestern Michigan Lower Peninsula area.

Is partial day coverage available?

A: You are welcome to inquire about coverage below 6 hours, but typically Weekends (especially from April through October) are going to be excluded.

Do you offer headshots, family sessions, commercial photos or portraits?

A: Absolutely. My background is varied and includes years of experience in portraits, event coverage, and more. This site is meant to showcase the wedding backbone of my business. Other work can be found on my Instagram here. 
Some points of pride include covering the MOPOP Music festival, The Real Estate One Convention, and many large events for The Crofoot.

Can I see a full wedding gallery?

A: Certainly! In the contact form here, be sure to fill out your venues, and specify your interest in seeing a gallery. I will find a gallery either from your venue or one that I think will offer a similar aesthetic.

What editing will be done to our wedding gallery?

A: Editing your images before delivery is standard and included in all discussed pricing. What standard editing includes is exposure adjustment, color correction, sharpening and other overall clarity tuning. Advanced retouching is offered and something I have a few more years of experience in than even photography!

How many images can we expect for our wedding/event?

A: Coverage can vary greatly from each day, but typically 50-80 images per hour for weddings and engagements. Each aspect of your day requires a different level of coverage and flow.

What size will our images be when delivered? And what can we do with them, in regards to printing?

A: You will be given your images in full resolution, both in your gallery as well as your thumb drive. Usually, these will be more than enough resolution to comfortably print up to 20×30 with no loss in quality. If you are hoping to exceed that, additional production may be required.

What are our rights with the images?

A: You will have complete printing rights. And while your gallery will be directly connected to the print lab I use, you are free to take them wherever you would like. You may not sell the images for profit or publish them without the consent of Alex Guy Photo. It is also encouraged that social media posts be tagged with Alex Guy Photo, as referrals are the backbone of my ability to operate.

What is the standard turnaround time for our images?

A: Current average is 2 weeks. 3 weeks is guaranteed. Rush processing is available with a fee.

Do you offer engagement sessions? When should we do them? And what do they entail?

A: Engagement sessions are available and encouraged! They offer a number of invaluable perks including priming you and your spouse for comfort with getting your photos taken, they help you and I build rapport and they also are pictures of you two hotties without the constraints of a wild and action-packed wedding day.

What if we lose our thumb drive?

A: There is a $100 recovery fee to rebuild your gallery and resend a thumb drive. It is strongly encouraged that you make at least 1 backup of the drive upon receiving it, to avoid this.

Are our images backed up? Can they be lost?

A: I have never lost an image, thanks in great part to my extensive backup system. I use 2 cameras on your wedding day. Each camera has a backup memory card inside. Upon returning from your event, the images are backed up to 2 separate hard drives and then uploaded to a cloud storage service I pay for each year. At any given time, there are at least 2 copies of all your weddings photos.

Do you have liability insurance?

A: Liability insurance is standard with professional photographers and required at nearly every venue. Yes.

How do I reserve my date?

A: Your date or dates are reserved once your signed contract and retainer are received.
